Cover letters are the perfect way to set yourself apart from other candidates, that is, only if you know how to write them properly. Cover letters allow you to get your personalized message across to the hiring manager or possible interviewer, so the key is to be brief and direct.

Just like a resume that is dissected cautiously, your resume is also going to be scrutinized, so you want to make sure that it is top notch and it sets itself apart from your competitors.

Just like a resume, the person on the other end will want to quickly read your cover letter to see if they even want to move forward.

Moreover, when looking at cover letter examples for resume you will learn that your cover letters do not have to be in essay format and in fact they are strictly a “letter” where its’ only purpose is to entertain the reader enough to where they will want to go and dissect your resume and then bring you in for an interview to get to know a little more about you.

Here are a few things to remember:

  • Forget all the fancy talk and write to communicate and not to impress with   words
  • Get to the point and forget all the babbling
  • Be active, not passive
  • Use short, familiar words
  • Use contractions
  • Go on a “which” hunt
  • Ask questions
  • Be specific

Always remember to thank the individual for reading your work, and close with the standard “Sincerely,” or “Best regards.” This shows that you are polite and you have some sort of business etiquette.

Those are the top things that you will find in sample cover letter for resume all over the net, so you want to make sure that you stick to those guidelines and you will be right where you need to be to get you that first interview.

You will want to remember that you will want to create a new cover letter for each position that you apply for. You do not want to use a standard business cover letter because it will not stand out to the employer. You will want to write something relative to that particular company so that they can differentiate themselves in the cover letter. This will peek more of their interest and it will also let them know that you went the extra mile to find out a little more about their company.
